Self-esteem and mental health are closely related to one another. People with high self-esteem typically have better mental health and are more satisfied with their lives in general. The relationship is dynamic, meaning that mental health can influence self-esteem, and self-esteem can impact mental health. SO HOW CAN WE PROMOTING POSITIVE SELF-ESTEEM AND MENTAL HEALTH
Self-awareness - Fostering self-esteem and preserving mental health need an understanding of one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.Taking time to do some self reflection/self introspection. Ask yourself who you are, who do you want to be, how can I get there, do I believe its possible? These kind of questions can be hard at first but are very important in shaping and promoting positive self esteem and self awareness.
Positive affirmations- Self-esteem can be increased by talking to oneself positively and focusing on one's strengths. This does not mean you are perfect but it does mean you are valuable and worthy of all the dignity and graces that come with be a human created in the likeness and image of God. Social support - Self-esteem and mental health can both benefit from establishing and sustaining healthy connections. In a world that changes so quickly, gives conflicting and often confusing messages finding the right social support is very challenging. Friends love, go the extra mile, check in, are will to agree and disagree with you but ultimate want what is best for you. They can be critical and judgmental but should also be open minded, willing to see other perspectives, and change when needed to ensure safety and health outcomes for their friend. “A friend that sticks closer than a brother”. Seeking professional help- Counselors and therapists are examples of mental health experts who can be helpful to people who struggle with mental health difficulties or poor self-esteem. Sometimes we get so stuck in our own thoughts that we cannot see the forest for the trees. An outside perspective from counselors/therapists is very valuable as it will point out good and bad thought processes that can hold us captive to ways of thinking and active the lower our self esteem. There is a caveat to this, good counsel is something that has to be sought after. Never walk, adhere or bow to the counsel of evil/bad intentioned people but listen, gain understanding, wisdom and insight from those who demonstrate integrity, justice, morality, purity, righteousness. Your self esteem will only grow healthy and strong.
